MIBI – Microbial Biotechnology
The MIBI research group has been operating for over twenty years in the study and enhancement of microorganisms, considered a strategic resource for humans and the environment. Our activities range from developing starter cultures and probiotics for the food industry to producing enzymes and metabolites using a biorefinery approach. We also conduct metagenomic analysis of complex microbial communities and study the interactions between the human microbiota and its host.
MIBI uses a multidisciplinary approach that integrates classical microbiology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, chemistry of fermentative processes, and advanced instrumental analysis. The goal is to generate knowledge and innovative solutions to support health, sustainability, and industrial development.
